We recently had the opportunity to speak with Eric Metens, president and founder of zeeDive Inc., which is an easy-to-use and exciting e-commerce community that offers an impressive inventory of stylish goods at ever-decreasing price tags. Below you will find insights and details shared by Mr. Metens that we hope you find useful and informative.

TechAddress: Tell me a bit about your company, what it does and what’s your value proposition?

zeeDive: zeeDive is a new and fun way of shopping; a new spin on e-tailing. On zeeDive prices always drop and a buyer can click ‘catch it now’ at any time during a ‘dive’ to purchase the item at its current price. Buyers can also set the price they are willing to pay for an item and if it reaches that price, it’s theirs. Web 2.0 oriented, all pricing and timing information is updated in real time. zeeDive is also community oriented. Each of our sellers will have his/her own profile on MySpace where he/she will review hot items and announce loss-leader promotions targeted specifically to MySpace users.

Also, we believe in giving back to the community. We have picked 2 non-profit organizations fighting Global Warming to which we will give a percentage of our profit on all powered items.

In term of company history, I had the idea of zeeDive in 2005, I got a functional prototype pretty quickly and in Jan 2006, we decided to incorporate. Some initial capital got injected. We are now ready to launch!

TechAddress: What makes your company stand apart from your competitors?

zeeDive:

– The concept

– Our design UI / ease of use

– Our tech: real-time pricing and timing information

– Community oriented

TechAddress: What are some of the main features?

zeeDive:

– Real-time updating of all pricing information

– Ability to ‘catch it now’ that allows a buyer to purchase an item at the price displayed

– Ability to ‘set your price’ that allows a buyer to set a purchase price

– Dive monitoring (e-zeeCatch) that allows a buyer to catch and set prices on several dives at once

– Different type of dives:

– Flash Dive – only last a few hours, no minimum price…..

– Live Catch – private dive, you do not see other buyer prices.

TechAddress: Who’s your target customer or audience?

zeeDive: Target customer is 20-35 years old, both genders, urban, out of college, first job, moving in with boyfriend/girlfriend looking to furnish and equip their house cheaply with stylish goods.

TechAddress: Any new things in particular that you’re working on right now?

zeeDive: We are currently polishing the site for launch. Meaning going through the bug list, making sure we are fine on all browsers for example. We are also in the process of refining our product selection to make sure we offer the best deals on launch day.

TechAddress: Where do you see your company heading in the future?

zeeDive: zeeDive plans to open to European markets by the end of 2007. In term of vertical growth, we plan to offer ‘skins’ to zeeDive. Meaning we plan to open different sites, under the same core brand, to sell different type of goods: zeeBulk will be focused on wholesale lots, zeeStuff on collectibles, and we are having contacts with a real estate company (foreclosures) for zeeHousing.

TechAddress: Any negative feedback or criticism regarding technology and services?

zeeDive: We started a beta test program a few month ago and a few hundreds testers have been sending feedback regularly. This feedback has proven invaluable in making zeeDive what it is today. We changed quite a few things to tell you the truth based on that feedback and I’m grateful to the internet community for its time.

TechAddress: So what would you say is the guiding principle behind your company?

zeeDive: Provide a fun, community oriented and safe shopping experience where buyers can find the best deals.

TechAddress: What is the mission of your company and what are you bringing to the market that is innovative?

zeeDive: We are bringing a new way of shopping enhanced by web 2.0 technologies.

TechAddress: Where are you in terms of funding and your lifecycle?

zeeDive: We got some angel funding in Jan 2006. We will be going through a Series A around Feb 2007.

TechAddress: If your technology or service is not formally launched yet, when’s the launch date?

zeeDive: Oct 9, 2006
